Atraumatic Extraction and Socket Grafting
Conventional extraction techniques often result in reduced bone height and width, with associated esthetic and functional deficits. Learn how to remove the most difficult root tips predictably, with minimal trauma and loss of hard and soft tissue. By applying these newly developed techniques, instruments, and materials, you will learn to perform simple and predictable grafting procedures to maintain and augment bone as well as attached gingiva in and around the healing socket.
An ideal esthetic outcome requires an adequate volume of hard and soft tissue at the implant site. Yet it is estimated that over 60% of potential implant sites will require some type of augmentation to achieve an optimum result. Learn the skills needed to provide predictably esthetic results in compromised situations.
No prior experience is necessary.
To provide the dental practitioner and their clinical team the didactic and surgical information required to atraumatically extract teeth and successfully regenerate bone into the tooth sockets immediately after removal. To provide the dental practitioner with a thorough understanding of bone grafting indications, principles and techniques for particulate maxillary and mandibular onlay grafts. Attendees will learn soft tissue management techniques, including vertical and horizontal releasing incisions, to maximize exposure to the surgical site as well as suturing techniques for successful passive tissue closure over the grafted site.
This two-day course presents the protocols for atraumatic tooth removal and ridge preservation. Anatomy, histology, and bone loss patterns will be presented. Indications for site preservation versus site augmentation will precede a thorough review of bone graft materials and collagen membrane products. Soft tissue flap design, releasing incisions, proper tissue closure, suture materials and techniques will be covered as well. A thorough review of case selection will provide attendees the ability to select cases that will provide predictable results using the techniques demonstrated in the course. Understanding and applying the fundamentals taught at this course will provide the participant with ideal sites for future esthetic restorative procedures. A proper diagnosis of the surgical site is critical when expanding into less than ideal conditions, therefore, a comprehensive review of radiographic and clinical site evaluation will be presented. Proper soft tissue management is critical to bone graft success therefore tissue flap design, manipulation and passive closure techniques will be illustrated. Bone graft materials, membrane selection, and PRP/PRF protocols will be covered. The procedures covered in this course will include the placement of implants when grafting is anticipated, particulate onlay grafts, and other grafting procedures essential to those who place implants. Case presentations showing these specific techniques will be emphasized during this course.
Mode of Instruction
Lecture, slides, and video presentations are included in the lecture portion of this program. Additionally, there are live presentations of the techniques learned as well as the “hands on” portion which reinforces those techniques. Bringing Loupes and accompanying illumination is recommended as ambient lighting may not be adequate.
